The Moon is Earth's only satellite. Only half the Moon is visible from Earth. This is because the time the Moon takes to spin on its axis is exactly the same as the time it takes to orbit the Earth. During the month, the Moon appears to grow ('wax') and shrink ('wane').
While the Sun provides the warmth and light, the Moon doesn't have a light of her own. She merely reflects what the Sun shines onto her; hence the planet was seen as passive and therefore feminine. So the Moon represents sensitivity, moodiness and reflectiveness. A person with a strong Moon influence in their birth chart will have a strong sensitivity to what is happening around them so that they cannot sometimes create emotion and feelings for themselves.
They are always reflecting the feelings of others. The Moon governs our emotional responses and behaviour, our desire for domestic and emotional security, our links with the family and the past. It also is a key to our instincts, in particular our maternal instincts.
